Greetings adventurers and game masters worldwide! Today, I'm excited to introduce you to Quick Maps, a brand new feature that has just been launched in the 4.5.0 update of Fantasy Grounds Unity and I want to walk you through it. This useful addition is designed to enhance your game nights, so let's jump right in!
What Are Quick Maps?
Quick Maps makes it easy to set up your role-playing sessions with lightning speed. Those who have used tile-based Paizo map packs to painstakingly craft their fantasy landscapes understand the time it can take. With Quick Maps, however, you can generate those intricate scenes in a fraction of the time. Utilize pre-made map packs that demonstrate the potential of combining tiles like pieces of a spellbinding puzzle.

Let's say you are assembling a picturesque campsite—a serene setting for your party's next encounter. Select your desired image in the asset window. A simple click on the Quick Maps button transforms this scenic asset into a full-blown map. Normally, you would have to create an image record to get going, but now, with Quick Maps, a new window pops up with the asset at the top, ready for action.
Populating Your Map: The Encounter-Party Dynamic
With the Quick Maps window open, you can load an encounter by simply dragging and dropping it in. You will see a grid layout with sections for the party and the enemy. Here, you get to plot out where the adventure begins. Will your party start in the heart of the camp, or on its outskirts, warily approaching?
As for the foes—the brown bears, the Gorgons, or any creatures your story dictates—place them across the grid, and with a tap on "submit," watch as they're added to the combat tracker, positioned and primed for the unfolding tale.
As an exciting aside, shifting into first-person view adds a layer of immersion that's nothing short of brilliant for visual storytelling!

Additional Features and Tricks
But wait, there's more! Let's talk terrain. Quick Maps lets you play around with different fills and map sizes. Choose from small, standard, or large, and place your friends and foes where the action demands. And when it comes to combat? A few clicks and you're ready to roll initiative. Quick Maps takes away the setup slog and lets you focus on what's important—the adventure.
Have a dirt fill? A concrete jungle to navigate? You're the master painter, with a palette at your fingertips to create the base layer of your map and then scale it, twist it, and turn it, just the way you want it. The pain layer—just a turn of phrase, because this will certainly not cause any pain—can be a square of any size that you brush across the digital canvas, filling it with the image of your choice.
Looking at the Bigger Picture
Let's say you've got a massive, epic encounter planned. Quick Maps doesn't flinch—it's ready to handle your most colossal of battles. After selecting the large map option, spreading your NPCs across the grid, and adjusting the fill layer, you've got an epic scene set in seconds.
Sure, in these early stages, some overlaps might occur, especially with larger creatures, but those small tweaks won't keep your story from soaring. Soon enough, we'll add even more precision to this already amazing feature.
From a Simple Click to an Epic Campaign
The beauty of Quick Maps is twofold: it fits seamlessly into your workflow, and it adjusts to your creative vision. Whether you're pulling in a dungeon encounter (complete with dungeon invaders), or crafting a peaceful cemetery before the undead rise, Quick Maps adheres to your narrative and elevates it, turning hasty preparation into something that feels deeply intentional and incredibly immersive.
