(Spoilers- Lost Things)

WBW-PR Lost Things Like a half-forgotten dream, the Witchlight Carnival drifts into our world once every eight years, drawing folk of all ages to delight in its fey wonders. Entry without a ticket is strictly forbidden, and the consequences for trespass echo through time.

A 2-hour prelude adventure for players beginning the Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign. CONTENT WARNING: Fairytale abduction, magical charm (WotC)

The night of the game, we logged into the Discord channel provided for players and the login information for the Fantasy Grounds campaign. We made level zero characters. Given the choice of younger or older children to play.

Younger Kids. Your ability score array is 12, 11, 10, 10, 9, 8. You begin to play with the Lucky feat (see the Player’s Handbook.) You are size Small regardless of your race/lineage. You have 4 hit points. Older Kids. Your ability score array is 13, 12, 11, 10, 10, 8. Your size conforms to the size listed for your race/lineage. You have 6 hit points.

I chose an older child and got to work on my character. I had decided on a build based on Tinker Bell. I envisioned a petulant thirteen-year-old Fairy. Forced to accompany a bunch of "little kids". The type that pretends not to want to be there, but is just as excited. My friend, Lome, chose a younger child. A wide-eyed innocent type. Overly excited to see and try everything.

Love the character wizard in Fantasy Grounds. It made creation easy. Were all done quickly and started the game. Other than Lome and I, the rest of the party had played in a prior game with this DM and had characters.

The story begins with a roll of the dice. The group had been "taking care of a baby owlbear we found". As a group, we "hid the owlbear in the hayloft". One day, the owlbear, Juniper, escaped into the carnival grounds and the group chased after her. We found the Juniper in a tent eating marshmallows. There was a man, Candlefoot, and he told us that the owlbear had escaped from the carnival and that we should not be there without tickets. While he decided what to do with us, since we had taken care of the baby owlbear, we were allowed to play some carnival games. Into the carnival, we go.

The first game we played was Bash-a-Beholder. We were given a cushioned wooden mallet. The goal was to bash the eyes of a dummy beholder as they emerge on stalks from the holes. The dice gods were not kind and my rolls ended with my character erupting into fits of giggles on the first try. In the second attempt, my character was sprayed with custard. We licked it off and enjoyed the treat. One of the other members won a set of clown gloves. Her hand grew freakishly large after putting them on. Down to the creek after, my character cleaned the last of the sticky custard off and went to play the next game.

Cuddle the Catoblepas was the next game. A foul-smelling weird looking creature was before us. We only had to successfully hug the creature for five seconds. Unfortunately, I was the only one that passed the saving throw and succeeded in the task. Most of the party was vomiting from the stench. Poor creature, my heart went out to its stinky self. Oh boy, my character won the potion of bubble breath and a whoopee cushion.

Name the Unnamable came next. Given a few words, we had to put them together to make the character's name. That one took the longest for the group. Nope, did not win that pearl of elocution.

Wheel of Magic was next. A spin of the wheel is divided into eight colored segments (each labeled with a different school of magic. With a satisfying clickety-clack sound and a DC save, the wheel spins, the contestant must choose a segment and pull a lever. I got Illusion. For 1 hour, could cast the minor illusion cantrip at will. Got the wand of whimsey, as well. Another party member got the same thing and turned all of our hair green. I used mine to turn my hair back to black. I mean, come on, don't touch the tween's hair.

What Time Is It, Mister Witch? We had to sneak up on a dummy of Mister Witch, mounted on a revolving platform. The dummy holds a pocket watch in its hand. Before attempting to grab the watch, the contestants must call out the phrase “What Time Is It, Mister Witch?”. The dummy then croaks a number between one and eight o’clock (roll a d8) and its pocket watch starts loudly ticking down that many seconds. My character was one of the two that succeeded in getting the pocket watch. No matter how the watch was held it would allow sand to fall for 24 hours and reset.

Widdershins Rhymes was fun. I did well but did not win. participants try to best each other in a rhyming contest. The participants stand in a circle and keep a rhyme going. The bookmark of memory went to the winner. Helps you remember all that you previously read.

Fold-Up Friend was one my character did not participate in. Lome did and she drew a dragon. She won and was able to keep her fold-up dragon friend. It could follow her and dance. Cool prize.

8: Candlefoot’s Story Hour was the last. We got to cuddle with Juniper and eat marshmallows as the story of Baba Yaga was told to us. After, we were told that Juniper was going home, so we said our goodbyes sadly. Mister Witch and Mister Light arrived and kicked us from their carnival.

All in all, it was a fun evening. The DM was wonderful and the other players were so much fun. Lome and I are looking forward to more adventures.
